A new teaser for Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC will reportedly be unveiled by CD Projekt Red at The Game Awards.

As of this writing, the Game Awards are only a few hours away, which means that anticipation for the events is at an all-time high, and that one source (with a questionable track record) claims that Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC will be included. Given the game’s recent resurgence in popularity, this would be a surprising announcement that fits in with the other high-profile speculations and leaks surrounding The Game Awards.

While playing the downloadable content “Phantom Liberty” for Cyberpunk 2077, the player character, V, becomes entangled in the Pacifica Combat Zone and ultimately pledges loyalty to the New United States of America. It’s unclear when this happens, but it probably won’t be a side plot until the New United States provides V a way to prevent their impending destruction. Fans of the spy-thriller genre will be able to check out this DLC sometime in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One will not be getting this downloadable content.

The information that Cyberpunk 2077 will be present comes from leaker Tyler McVicker, who has previously shared early details about games from Valve, CD Projekt Red, and other companies like Rockstar. However, it is important to note that McVicker’s track record for this stuff is spottier than some leakers. If McVicker claims to have this information on “extremely good authority,” fans should still take it with a grain of salt. Having a trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty at The Game Awards, however, would be greatly appreciated. Fans have received a rudimentary glance and a basic story explanation so far, so it’s about time more gets given.

Release date estimates for Cyberpunk 2077 range from 2023 to 2024. It wouldn’t be odd to hear a leak on this given the prevalence of other release date leaks (like Final Fantasy 16) in the run-up to The Game Awards. No doubt, not all of the DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will be given a release date.

Fans are still smarting from Cyberpunk 2077’s interminable development delays and disastrous release. It’s reasonable that CDPR would wait to announce a release date until it was completely guaranteed, since announcing a date and then having to delay it may send supporters back to the same mental place.
