Just in time for summer, a fresh collection of Studio Ghibli T-shirts has been unveiled in Japan, and they can also be ordered worldwide.

Donguri Sora, the Japanese brand responsible for Studio Ghibli’s official merchandise, has recently announced a new line of T-shirts. The designs on these shirts are inspired by some of Studio Ghibli’s most beloved films, which have gained popularity not only in Japan but also internationally. Although Donguri Sora’s physical stores are limited to Japan, fans from overseas can purchase these T-shirts online.

Studio Ghibli is renowned for creating iconic and highly acclaimed Japanese animated films like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service, to name just a few. Since the 1980s, the studio has produced beautifully animated stories that capture the essence of everyday life, while also conveying impactful anti-war and environmental messages.

The Donguri Sora T-shirts feature simple yet distinctive designs inspired by various Studio Ghibli films. Each T-shirt is priced at 6,600 yen (approximately $49 USD) and can be ordered starting from May 11th. Since the shirts are made to order, availability may be limited after the pre-order period in May. Shipping is scheduled for June, ensuring that the shirts arrive just in time for the onset of warm weather. Moreover, the shirts come in a wide range of sizes, from S to XXL, making them accessible to fans of all sizes.
Studio Ghibli films have captured the hearts of both children and adults worldwide, and characters like Totoro have gained international recognition. Totoro even made an appearance in Disney’s Toy Story 3, highlighting the strong connection between Disney and Studio Ghibli. By making these T-shirt designs available not only to Japanese fans but also to international fans, Donguri Sora has made a smart move. There are a total of 15 different T-shirts available, featuring 12 unique designs (some designs are offered in different colors). The designs include Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle accompanied by the words “Fire Demon” and the Japanese kanji for fire, Tombo from Kiki’s Delivery Service reaching out to Kiki on the front while stating “don’t call me” on the back, and a Castle in the Sky shirt showcasing one of the famous robots in a varsity T-shirt style.
